The bow hemp (Sansevieria) is one of the easiest houseplants to care for and is a good choice, especially for beginners. It belongs to the asparagus family and has its origins in Africa. There are many different types. Most have very long broad leaves that grow straight up from the center of the plant. The color can vary from species to species, from unicolored green to bicolored green with dark horizontal stripes to yellow with vertical stripes. The scalloped plant prefers a bright location, but can also cope just as well with a darker corner or a sunny place. It should only be watered again when the top layer of soil has dried out.
Bow hemp is slightly toxic to humans and animals.
