The yucca palm (Yucca elephantipes) belongs to the agave family and is therefore a succulent. It is incorrectly referred to as a palm tree because its appearance is reminiscent of a woody trunk from which side shoots with long thin leaves branch off at the top. It has its natural range in Central America. It does not require much care and only needs to be watered seldom, but it does need a light to sunny location. In winter, move them to a cooler spot (5-10 degrees) during their hibernation. It rarely happens that the yucca palm blooms as a houseplant.
The yucca palm is slightly toxic to humans and animals.
